BP Safety Record: Worst of any oil company in America

05/06/2010

“BP is a London-based oil company with one of the worst safety records of any oil company operating in America,” says Tyson Slocum of Public Citizen. “In just the last few years, BP has paid $485 million in fines and settlements to the US government for environmental crimes, willful neglect of worker safety rules, and penalties for manipulating energy markets.”

BP puts up a brilliant facade that would lead one to believe that they are best in the business. The truth always comes out in the end. Now, everyone can see what they are truely made of. The government can fine them all they want, but what will really put a kink in their operation is if they are forced to comply with OSHA as all other companies are. As it stands now, BP has enough clout that they can lobby their way out of certain regulations and rulings. They showed $5.2B profit last qtr, and sad to say, that will draw you a few “get out of jail free cards” along the way. If they were forced to have a government gaurdian at each installation that was suspect to disaster, that would change their mindset and profit line.
